Privacy Policy

For Journal Vault

Last updated: March 18, 2026 | Version 1.0

1) What this policy covers

This Privacy Policy explains how Journal Vault (“the App”) processes information when you use the App, including optional features such as encrypted import/export and automatic online backup to a provider you choose.

2) Core principle: you control your journal

Your journal entries are stored as files on your device. The App does not require an account to use.

If you enable automatic online backup, the App will upload encrypted copies of your journal files to the cloud storage provider you select (for example Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, or Dropbox).

3) Information the App processes

A) Journal content (your entries and files)

  • Stored locally on your device as files.
  • Export/Import: when you export (plain text or encrypted) or import, the App reads/writes files you choose.
  • Automatic online backup (optional, paid): if you enable it, the App uploads encrypted data to your chosen provider as part of normal saving/sync behavior.

Important: Your journal encryption password/key is not sent to us. If you lose it, we cannot recover or decrypt your encrypted content.

B) Purchase information (only if you buy the lifetime feature)

If you purchase the lifetime unlock for automatic online backups, the purchase is handled by the platform store (Apple App Store / Google Play). We may receive confirmation that the purchase is active on your device/platform, but we do not need an account to do this.

C) Diagnostics and analytics

  • The App does not include analytics tracking.
  • The App does not include a crash-reporting/telemetry SDK.

(If this changes in a future version, this policy will be updated before release.)

D) Support communications

If you email us (for example to info@nextleveldev.se), we will process the information you include in the email, and any technical details you choose to share.

4) When data may leave your device

Data may leave your device only in these cases:

  • You choose to export your journal (plain text or encrypted) to a location you select.
  • You enable automatic online backup, which uploads encrypted data to the cloud provider you choose (Google Drive / OneDrive / Dropbox).
  • You manually share files (for example sending an export to yourself).

5) Third parties (processors)

If you enable automatic online backup, your encrypted journal data will be stored with the cloud provider you select, under that provider’s terms and privacy policy. Typical providers include:

  • Google Drive
  • Microsoft OneDrive
  • Dropbox

If you make a purchase, payment processing is handled by:

  • Apple App Store and/or Google Play

We do not sell your data.

6) Legal basis (GDPR)

Depending on what you do in the App, we process information under:

  • Performance of a contract: to provide App functionality you request (e.g., export/import, backup you enable).
  • Legitimate interests: to respond to support requests and protect against abuse (limited to support channels).

If we ever introduce optional analytics, it will be based on consent.

7) Retention

  • Journal content: retained on your device and/or your chosen cloud provider until you delete it.
  • Support emails: retained only as long as needed to handle the request and maintain reasonable records.

8) Security

  • The App is designed to protect journal content using encryption.
  • If you enable online backup, the App uploads encrypted data to your chosen provider.
  • You are responsible for keeping your password/key safe. We cannot restore it.

9) Your rights (EU/EEA/UK users)

You may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of personal data we control (for example, support emails). To exercise rights, contact us at info@nextleveldev.se.

For journal content stored on your device or your chosen cloud provider, you can typically delete it directly using the App and/or your provider account.

10) Children

The App is not intended for children without parental guidance. If you believe a child has provided us personal data via support email, contact us and we will address it.

11) Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the effective date and publish the updated version.
